Whiteside Newsletter #11 - November 18, 2022

Hello Whiteside families,

Whiteside enjoyed another amazing week of learning together. Our classes are overflowing with great learning opportunities right now. Soon December will be here and all of the fun and festivities of the holidays will soon follow.

Thank you to our amazing PAC for three great nights of family photos. We truly appreciate all of the support and generosity provided by our parent community. Thank you!

We hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend with your families!

PRO-D DAY – MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21st

Whiteside will be closed this Monday for our November pro-d. We look forward to seeing our Wolfpack back at school on Tuesday.

HOT LUNCH – November 25th

Our next hot lunch is on November 25th. It’s Pizza Day! Hot lunch will only be ordered and provided to families that have paid for their order. Please ensure you have completed your order.

HOLIDAY WISH

We still need parent volunteers to help with the gift drop-off. Please email our principal, Brett Cameron, at bcameron@sd38.bc.ca if you are able to volunteer for 15 minutes before or after school on November 24, 25, 28, or 29. Thank you!

Thank you for your participation in the Holiday Wish coin drive this week! The Holiday Season is the time of year to celebrate with loved ones. We would like to ensure that all Whiteside families have the chance to partake in this special time of year. In order to support families in need, the Holiday Wish Committee and the Whiteside PAC are working together to fundraise for families who need support during this special time of year, and we couldn’t do this without your support.

You can support this program by:

  • Purchasing and donating a gift. Sign up here.
  • Making a cash donation here.
  • Purchasing a gift card through our PAC program.

Thank you!

TWIN DAY

Friday, November 25th is Twin Day! A day where you and your friends can dress the same. You can match your clothes, accessories or hair with one or multiple friends. Remember you can also match with a staff member if you like! We look forward to seeing what you do for Twin Day on Friday, November 25th!

WHITESIDE VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR

It’s here! Our school’s Scholastic Virtual Book Fair began on Monday and will run until November 20th! Experience the joy of a Book Fair online by joining us!

VOLLEYBALL SEASON

Mr. Quan and Ms. Kinsey and our intermediate students started our new volleyball season with practices on our field and at McRoberts. Our upcoming games are:

Nov. 23 with Woodward

Nov. 29 at Bridge

We look forward to inviting you to our home games soon! Go Wolfpack!

PARKING LOT SAFETY

Please help keep our students safe by using the drop off zone for picking up and dropping off students only.  Please do not leave your car unattended in the drop off zone; if you need to come into the school, please park in a designated parking space.  When walking to school, please use the designated paths south and adjacent to the driveway as you enter the school grounds. Please follow arrows to keep our students safe and keep our parking lot accident free.

Please remember the east parking lot is for school and construction staff only. Please do not park or drop off children in this area.

“IN” DAYS AND “OUT” DAYS:

During recess and lunchtime breaks, students are expected to be outside at all times this year.  Students are strongly encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. You may also send a change of clothes to school just in case your child gets wet. Playing outside will ensure our students get some fresh air and exercise to enliven their day.

SCHOOL VISITORS

In the interest of safety, everyone entering the school must check in at the office. Classrooms are busy learning places and we try not to interrupt them during instructional time.  If you need to see your child, leave them a message, or drop off a lunch, our office staff will happily take care of that for you.  As well, it is difficult at the end or beginning of the school day for our office staff to have in-depth discussions with parents.  Making appointments either by phone or in person is preferable. Thank you for your support!

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Richmond School District 38 is excited to welcome kindergarten registration applications for children born in 2018, turning 5 in 2023. These children will begin kindergarten in September 2023. Online registration opens on November 1st, 2022. Please visit our website http://www.sd38.bc.ca/kindergarten for more information about our online registration process, required documents, important dates, and FAQs.
