Whiteside Students' Art Installation at Steveston Post Office

This winter students in Mme Howells' class participated in the "Reach to Teach" program, an arts initiative by the Arts Conservatory & Renaissance Academy of Learning in partnership with the Community Arts Council of Richmond (CACR).

Our students explored the art of Henri Rousseau, creating their own interpretations of his dreamlike jungle landscapes.

They were inspired by Rousseau's unique "Naive or Primitive" style, characterized by vibrant colors, flat perspective, attention to detail, and dreamlike quality.  Rousseau was a self-taught artist who painted imaginative jungle scenes despite never leaving France, drawing inspiration from botanical gardens and books.

They created an art installation exploring Rousseau's dreamlike landscapes using both 2D and 3D elements.

This program aims to foster creativity, joy in artistic expression, and build confidence in students.  It emphasizes the transformative power of art and its ability to empower students.

Our students' work celebrates the power of art education and its impact on young lives, using the work of Henri Rousseau as a springboard for their creativity.

This art installation can be seen all month at the Steveston Post Office (3811 Moncton St.)
