As the parents of Whiteside know, a student, running outside, was approached by a man with a camera wanting to take a picture. No harm was done to the child, and the police are investigating the situation. We would like to ask parents to remind students of what they can do to keep themselves safe when they are out in the community. Here are some tips that may be helpful.
1. Make sure that whenever possibile, you walk with a friend, especially after dark. There is strength in numbers.
2. If you are walking alone, make sure that someone knows where you are, and call when you arrive at your location.
3. If someone near you is making you feel uncomfortable in any way, leave the situation and speak with an adult.
4. Stay away from poorly lit areas.
The staff at Whiteside will continue to support the safety of all students during the school day.
